🌞 Year 4 – Summer Term Overview 🌞
We’re set for a very busy and fun-filled final term of the year! Here’s a sneak peek at what we’ll be learning:
📚 English
This term we’ll dive into the powerful story of The Boy at the Back of the Class by Onjali Rauf. We’ll develop our empathy by writing a diary entry from a character’s perspective, then use our creativity to design a brand-new character to add to the story in Onjali’s unique style. Later, we’ll work on persuasive writing and create compelling letters. To finish the term, we’ll explore weather poetry, focusing on the "The Wind" by Christina Rossetti.
➗ Maths
We’ll continue deepening our understanding of decimals before moving on to money, telling the time, and exploring shape. Times tables will remain a key focus—ready for our Multiplication Check in June! ⏰
🔬 Science
Our topic this term is States of Matter. We’ll investigate the differences between solids, liquids and gases, and explore changes of state like melting, evaporation and condensation. We’ll then apply our knowledge to understand the water cycle and how temperature plays a key role in it! 💧🌡️
🏺 History
We’re travelling back in time to explore Ancient Civilisations, focusing on Ancient Egypt. From the Old Kingdom to the New Kingdom, Egyptian Gods and Goddesses to the mighty River Nile—we’ve got lots to discover! Our learning will be brought to life with a trip to the World Museum in Liverpool on Friday 4th July for an Ancient Egyptian workshop. 🐫🕌📜
🗺️ Geography
Our focus this term is Mapping Skills. We’ll identify the six main climate regions across the globe and find out which countries fall within each one. We’ll also explore deforestation and how it affects both the people and animals of the Amazon Rainforest. 🌍🌳🐒
🏊 PE
Swimming continues every Thursday afternoon at Ashton Leisure Centre! This is a great chance for us to build water confidence and develop essential swimming skills. 🏅💦
✝️ Christian Value & PSHE
Our Christian Value this term is Community. In PSHE, we’ll be learning about Growing and Changing—including how our bodies change as we grow older. 🤝🌱
We can't wait for all the exciting learning, experiences and memories we’ll make together this summer! 🌟
Thank you for your continued support!

Our Learning Journey 🍂
Year 4 Investigates the Science of Teeth! 🦷✨
Year 4 have been sinking their teeth into some fascinating science learning! They explored the different types of teeth we have and their functions, identifying incisors, canines, premolars, and molars and discussing how each plays a vital role in breaking down our food.
To make their learning even more exciting, the class conducted a hands-on experiment using boiled eggs to investigate how different drinks can effect the enamel on our teeth. Boiled eggs were used as a model because their shells are similar to the enamel covering our teeth. The eggs were soaked in Coca-Cola, orange juice, milk, and water.
The results were eye-opening! The eggs in Coke and orange juice showed signs of damage, demonstrating how the sugars and acids in these drinks can harm tooth enamel, if we don’t take care of our teeth. In contrast, the eggs in milk and water fared much better, showing no significant changes.
This experiment highlighted the importance of brushing our teeth regularly and making mindful choices about what we drink to keep our smiles healthy and bright! 🪥😁
Year 4 had a fantastic time learning about road safety with Terry from Wigan Council! They explored different types of crossings and learned the best ways to stay safe when crossing the road. 🚦👟

Year 4 brought the rhythm of Brazil to life in their vibrant Samba Drumming Concert!🎶
